"What on earth?", I hear you cry. But let me explain; my husband was working until very late on Halloween and didn't want to miss seeing the children dressed up in their costumes. I mean, look how cute they looked - who would want to miss that?!
So, last night, we donned our costumes (when I say 'we' I, of course, mean the two children and teddy - I look scary enough on the best of days!) and headed out the door.
Before you think my family is totally weird, I should say that we only went trick-or-treating at my in-law's house. To go knocking on any other doors would have been too embarrassing for words, but I'm sure we got plenty of funny glances as we strolled down the street on our way to see the grandparents.
I think the idea of trick-or-treating is a lovely one for children. Sophia, our nearly three-year-old, loves dressing up at the best of times so to do it and get given sweets is her idea of heaven. Personally, I'd love to see more people getting into the spirit of things (no pun intended), if only because I never know from year-to-year if we're going to get trick-or-treaters so I buy huge bags of sweets and end up having to eat them myself (no bad thing I suppose).

We don't get trick or treaters because we live very remotely, but my daughter dressed up and we had people staying in our holiday cottages so she went along there. They were expecting her so wasn't a problem. However, we did that on Saturday night. I think Halloween is very commercialised these days and in many cases it's an excuse for kids to beg for sweets.
