So, when we were given the opportunity to review a new kind of jigsaw - a Jingle Puzzle - I thought it sounded like the sort of thing Sophia would love.
Jingle Puzzles are made by Music for Kids and is sold by the website Musicroom. Each set (of which there are currently four) includes a music-based puzzle, a sing-along CD with bonus story and an activity booklet and stickers. These puzzles are aimed at three to six-year-olds, to engage them with their first ‘hands-on’ introduction to music.
We were sent an Old MacDonald's Farm Jingle Puzzle to review and, you lucky readers, I have one to give away too!
Review
When the puzzle arrived, I was impressed at first sight. It all came in a study box with carry handle - perfect for little ones to carry around. Sophia couldn't wait to open the box and discover its contents.
The jigsaw is a good size for small children; the pieces are fairly large and easy to slot together. I'm not sure how engaging it would be to a six-year-old but Sophia thought it was fabulous. Even though she's used to handling jigsaws with much smaller pieces, the fact that the completed jigsaw is one metre long meant it was a new challenge for her. She got to work straight away.
When we had a little more time together we put the jigsaw together and used the puzzle to sing the Old MacDonald song, pointing to each animal in the jigsaw when it came to making animal noises. We opened the activity booklet and started to work through the different tasks, awarding stickers as we went.
All in all, I found this Jingle Puzzle to be really engaging...and not just for pre-school children. It allowed me to spend some quality time with Sophia (and also Dexter, who tried to help put the jigsaw together and then enjoyed taking it apart again). We talked about animals and colours, and sang songs together. I have to admit, I thoroughly enjoyed myself!
